I know that I could have better stamina if I could actually dedicate 1-1/2 hours a day to my fitness, but that is just not possible.

And as I get older I definitely notice the wear and tear - I went kayaking both days over the weekend (it finally rained!) and my knees are still sore. And my elbows.

The luck part is just what ya get - I have a breathing problem. I still push myself, but I'll never be as good as riders that have full capacity. Such is life...

Keep on riding.

Steve ZSteve Z (swampboy62)https://www.blogger.com/profile/03594045912519415678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360689488355472155.post-84919457763185665792012-09-12T05:29:18.081-07:002012-09-12T05:29:18.081-07:00Steve, Thanks for stopping by. I can't believe I just saw your comment!

I hear ya about not going as hard as often as you'd like. i think it might be something about getting older???? Of course then I read others exploits 9like Fatty's) and maybe its more about having the time to put in the miles...

DanDaniel Weisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04637437742446611544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360689488355472155.post-56757687463384065922012-09-05T07:22:16.118-07:002012-09-05T07:22:16.118-07:00Dan,
Haven't been by for a while, so here'...Dan,

Haven't been by for a while, so here's some accumulated comments from your last couple of posts:

Going hard can be awesome - as long as I'm mentally & physically prepared. If I'm planning on a big ride (for me a big ride is anything more than two hours on singletrack) then I make sure the bike is fit, I'm feeling good and well rested, I start fairly early in the day, eat well before, carry plenty of fluids and food (and actually take time to eat it). I can't go hard as often as I'd like, but the more easy days I have the better the hard days end up.

Technology - meh. There has to be a reason for using it, and when you're counting calories or training it makes sense. But I find the more I GPS, time and record a ride, the more distracted I am from the actual pleasures of riding. Sometimes I'm focused on the tech aspect (creating a new GPS track or making a video) but I value the restorative/recuperative aspect of riding too much to transform it into a burden via technology. That said, it's great that you're putting yourself out there and showing what you can do.

I dunno - I guess it would be cool to ride the Strip. And early morning rides have a eerily cool feeling. I'm kind of aversive to cities, and the gambling zombies give me the creeps, but I did really enjoy the desert when I was out west - it has it's own beauty for sure. Have fun on your ride.

And yeah! Mentioned on not only TJ's site, but yours! Darn cool!

Steve ZSteve Z (swampboy62)https://www.blogger.com/profile/03594045912519415678noreply@blogger.com
